PokerStars launches âWin the Button' online tournaments
New no-limit hold'em format sees winner of previous hand awarded the dealer button for next round
PokerStars has launched an online version of its “hugely popular” âWin the Button’ tournament, where the winner of each hand is awarded the dealer button for the next round.
Eleven âWin the Button’ tournaments will now feature on the PokerStars daily schedule, with buy-ins ranging from $2.20 to $162.
The new tournaments continue the Amaya-owned brand’s efforts to attract more recreational players with different twists on the traditional poker format. It also recently revamped its VIP programme again.
“We are proud to continue to deliver exciting and innovative games, the largest variety of tournaments anywhere in the world and to be the home of online poker,” said Severin Rasset, the director of poker innovation and operations at PokerStars.
The idea behind Win the Button is not new but PokerStars said it had committed to it after a trial run in the recent land-based World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) proved “hugely popular”.
Team PokerStars Pro Jason Somerville, who trialled the format on his popular Run It Up Twitch channel, said: “I love the interesting twist of Win the Button tournaments. I’m very much looking forward to competing in these tournaments more regularly. It’s awesome to see PokerStars continue to innovate and develop new fun-oriented tournament variants like Win the Button.”
Having the dealer button is a major benefit at the poker table as the dealer gets to act last on each round of betting.
“It adds a strategic element to each and every hand,” added PokerStars.
