POKER VOTERS OF AMERICA (PVA) has appointed a new president to replace founder Jim Tabilio, who left for a role as a private sector lobbyist in July.
PVA executive director Melanie Brenner (pictured) has been named the advocacy group’s president, and will be tasked with spearheading its drive to legalise poker on an intrastate basis in the US.
Brenner will also continue in her existing role as executive director.
As reported on EGRmagazine.com, Jim Tabilio left the PVA in July to become a private sector lobbyist advising gaming industry clients, governments and regulatory agencies on public policy gaming solutions at intrastate level in the US.
Prior to taking on the role of executive director for Poker Voters in October 2008, Brenner was a senior vice president for national political communications firm Winning Directions.
Brenner’s 25 years’ experience as a political consultant includes extensive work in Florida and California, where the PVA’ efforts to legalise and regulate online poker under an explicit intrastate exemption contained within the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) 2006 are most advanced.
The PVA also gave a presentation last week on the technical aspects of intrastate online poker systems to Florida’s Office of Program Policy Analysis and Government Accountability (OPPAGA), due to return its report on the impact of legalised intrastate online poker on the state on 1 December.
