PMU full-year online turnover falls 2.2%
Paris-headquartered operator reports a fall in gross gaming revenue across all three verticals during 2015
Pari Mutuel Urbain’s (PMU) online business this morning posted a 2.2% decline in 2015 turnover after all core verticals failed to reach the heights of the previous year.
Turnover from the French operator’s digital arm stood at ?1.6bn during the 12-month period with turnover from its core horseracing business down 1.8% YoY, despite 11% growth from international markets.
The Paris-headquartered operator did not disclose revenue figures for its online arm, bar poker which showed a 4.7% decrease year-on-year to ?15m.
Despite the fall in turnover, PMU chief executive Xavier H??rstel said he expected the operator to benefit from recent changes made as a result of its ‘PMU 2020’ modernisation plan.
“Despite a very disturbed environment, the decline in activity was dampened in 2015 thanks to a strong mobilisation of the company to implement a number of strategic projects of the plan PMU 2020,” Hurstel said.
“After a very difficult start to the year, business has improved [after] the operational implementation of major back office projects, not to mention new offers and developing the customer service quality,” he added.
The performance of the online business reflected that of the wider group where turnover fell 1.8% year-on-year to ?9.8bn, while revenues declined 2% to ?2.4bn.
Total sports betting turnover – including online and offline – rose by 3.6% to ?237m, although revenues from the vertical decreased 4.8% year-on-year to ?43m.
