Playtech unveils new mobile poker strategy
iPoker launches new native and HTML5 clients designed to increase player acquisition
Playtech’s iPoker has rolled out a new portfolio of mobile products as the network giant looks to provide a seamless experience across all platforms and provide a boost to new player sign-ups.
New HTML5 products as well as native smartphone and tablet applications were recently unveiled and are designed to be aligned with the network’s new download client.
Speaking with eGaming Review this morning, head of iPoker Joerg Nottebaum said the apps had been successfully launched in a number of markets and was now in the process of completing the integration with the rest of its dot.com licensees.
“The native smartphone and tablet version from a design standpoint is aligned to our new desktop client and our goal is to make the experience for the player who uses multiple devices as similar as possible to the download client, which requires us to rework a lot of the graphics and to get the table themes aligned,” Nottebaum said.
“It’s a long process but we expect all our licensees to take this mobile product because everyone is aware how important mobile is for boosting player acquisition,” he added.
Nottebaum also admitted that poker had been behind the mobile curve compared to casino and sports betting operators because the sector had been too focused on revenue rather than an acquisition strategy.
“A player who plays multiple tables on his PC automatically generates more revenue than someone playing one table on their smartphone for five minutes,” he said.
“So mobile is not a game-changer in terms of revenue for poker, which will mostly stay on the download client mainly, but when it comes to player acquisition and to make poker accessible, mobile is obviously key to that,” Nottebaum added.
News of the launch of the firm’s latest mobile clients comes after the iPoker recently rolled out what it described as a “revolutionary” new rake allocation method to its dot.it and dot.com networks.
The new source-based rake method changes the way in which individual player value is calculated, basing it on the revenue generated by a player for licensees by turning deposits into rake and whether they deposited money into the network.
