Paddy Power updates messenger app
Major update designed to keep operator ahead of the pack as rivals launch similar products
The 2.0 update of Paddy Powerâs PP Messenger app will be a âgame-changerâ according to its product manager, as the firm attempts to stay one step ahead of rivals entering the messenger space.
The update, released earlier this month, adds quick buttons to the bottom of the display, allowing users to call up prices and coupons for popular events without having to enter requests manually.
Previously the WhatsApp-style interface required users to type out their request, for instance by entering âchelsea premier leagueâ to call up odds for Chelsea to win next seasonâs title.
Ruairà McGowan, product manager for PP Messenger, said the buttons were a way of giving users quicker access to the functionality of the app.
âThe buttons have been a real game-changer for us because before even though there was a lot of the functionality available, we had to try and educate the customer in how you get that data,â McGowan told eGR Mobile Intelligence.
âApp users these days, if they donât figure out the apps themselves in the first minute, donât tend to go and look for tutorials. We needed something to bridge that gap and thatâs where these buttons came in,â he added.
Last month, Betfred launched its own messenger app, more than a year on from the initial PP Messenger launch, but McGowan said he considers it a compliment that other firms are following Paddyâs lead.
He expects to see more similar products from other operators, particularly those with a history in text betting, in the future.
âI guess it all depends on other operatorsâ road maps, but I think they will eventually jump on board,â he said.
