Paddy Power unveils Ascot ‘drunk tank’
Operator pledges to clean up racing in latest marketing campaign
Paddy Power has announced its latest “guerrilla marketing” campaign in the form of a custom-built ‘drunk tank’ that will be patrolling the streets of Ascot this week.
The initiative comes in the wake of racecourse fights at Ascot and Goodwood, with Paddys pledging to “curtail the spate of booze-fuelled brawls”.
“This pioneering service is our way of cleaning up the streets and is 100% guaranteed (you heard it here) to prevent a Royal Rumble at Britain’s most prestigious race meeting,” the firm said a in a blog post this morning.
“The public service initiative will provide temporary accommodation for 50 rat-arsed race goers to sleep off the booze inside a 6 x 2 metre container mounted on a lorry.
“Our sober squad of sleeper sweepers will be patrolling the streets of Berkshire this week to ensure those tanked up toffs don’t spoil things for residents and decent race-loving folk. Plus, we don’t want any tomfoolery getting in the way of honest punting, of course.”
The Irish bookmaker also launched a new TV campaign this week around the World Cup, with a 60-second spot focusing on some possible real world uses of VAR.
The ad is first in a new series, created in partnership with Chime Sports, called ‘Enough of the Nonsense’
The first ad focuses on some real world uses of VAR, with a spokesperson explaining: “While VAR is sorting out the decisions on the pitch, Paddy Power is here to help sort out differences off the pitch; putting the world to rights one video replay at a time.”
