Olympics organisers to hold bookmakers meeting
Tuseday's meeting arranged to discuss ways to identify and prevent illegal betting on Olympics.
The organisers of the London Olympics are to meet bookmakers on Tuesday to discuss ways of combatting illegal betting at this summer’s games.
The Guardian reports that the meeting, chaired by Ladbrokes trading director Mike O’Kane, has been arranged to discuss how the various bodies will work together to prevent betting corruption, and how the bookmakers and organisers will share information to identify suspicious betting patterns.
Paquerette Girard Zappelli, head of ethics at the International Olympic Committee (IOC); Kendrah Potts, lawyer responsible for betting and doping at the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG); and the Gambling Commission’s head of regulation Nick Tofiluk will all be in attendance to meet representatives from the major UK bookmakers.
A number of regulatory and operator bodies have already signed memoranda of understanding with the IOC in order to fight illegal betting. French regulator ARJEL signed a cooperation agreement in February this year, following Betfair’s announcement of an agreement to share information in January.
