Oddschecker: Stan James gains most market share
Stan James saw the biggest rise in market share of the sports books in October, while Bet365 remained in first place.
Stan James saw the biggest monthly rise in market share of the UK’s major sports books in October, the latest Oddschecker top 10 figures have shown.
The odds comparison site showed that Stan James increased its market share from 9.8% in September to 10.7% in October, overtaking Ladbrokes for the second month running, thanks to high-profile sporting events and increased marketing activity. The Gibraltar-based bookmaker also gained the most market share for golf (12.4%) and rugby (13.4%) this month.
Dave Watkins, commercial manager at Oddschecker, said: “Their [Stan James] surging performance was achieved by a strong Ryder Cup offer generating plenty of new acquisitions early in the month; continued focus on racing and football, and strong pricing on rugby union as the season got into full swing.”
Watkins continued: “Over the past few months we’ve seen plenty of headline promotions from Stan James which have really caught the punters eye; this has helped their significant rise in market share.”
Bet365 remained at the top of the Oddschecker Top 10 with 16.4% market share, up 0.1% from the previous month. Betfair remained in second place with 12.4%, falling 0.3% from September.
William Hill saw the biggest drop in market share this month, falling from 6.8% in September to 5.7% in October, however, this has not affected its placing in the list, where it remains in sixth place.
