Oddschecker: Betfair making up ground
Betting exchange closes the gap on Bet365 to just 3%, while Paddy Power and William Hill reap the rewards of Champions League final bets.
Betfair has closed the gap to Bet365 at the head of the Oddschecker top 10 for May, increasing its market share by a full percentage point while its Stoke-based rival saw its share drop slightly.
The difference between the two is now just 3%, compared to the 4.3% margin seen in March’s rankings, with Bet365 sitting on a 19.2% share and Betfair on 16.2%.
Lower down the top 10, May’s stats were impacted by the end of domestic football seasons across most of Europe, with Victor Chandler slipping from 5th to 8th over the last month.
And the movement of Victor Chandler down the table has allowed Boylesports to reach a year high of 6th and a market share of 6.1%, after starting the year in 10th with a 4.3% share.
While league football was only on the agenda for part of the month, May did also see betting on the Champions League final. Paddy Power and William Hill were the main beneficiaries of the showpiece football match, seeing their market share for European football increase by 3% and 4% respectively to climb the rankings for that particular market.
Elsewhere, the start of the flat racing season was particularly fruitful for Boylesports and Stan James, whose respective shares of the market climbed by 1% each.
