Oddschecker: Bet365 achieves record market share
Stoke-based operator opens up 3.1% gap over Betfair in January's Oddschecker top 10 list.
Bet365 recorded an unprecedented share of market clicks on Oddschecker in January, the odds comparison site has revealed.
The Stoke-based firm saw its market share rise 1.5% to 18.7%, opening up a 3.1% gap on second-placed Betfair, while it fared even better in horseracing with a 23% market share of all betting slips.
Betfair’s share dropped by 0.7% overall, despite leading the way (with 22%) in a football specials bets market inflated by the January transfer window.
Other bookmakers who took a chunk of the football specials market were Skybet (19%) and Victor Chandler (16%). Of those in positions three to 10 overall, Victor Chandler was the only company whose total share deviated by more than half a per cent, a rise of 0.6% leaving the Gibraltar-based firm just 0.2% behind William Hill in fifth place.
Despite the gap at the top opening up even further, in terms of positioning the Oddschecker top 10 for January remained unchanged from the previous month for the first time.
However, the top 10 between them contributed a higher proportion of total market clicks than ever before, withthe 85.6% total marking a 3.7% increase on this time last year.
Ladbrokes is continuing its trial absence from the odds comparison site, but a spokesperson for the Harrow-based bookmaker was unable to confirm whether or not the absence would continue beyond February.
A spokesperson for Oddschecker was unable to go into any details on the matter, aside from explaining that discussions were still ongoing between the two parties.
