Petter Nylander has resigned as Unibet chief executive, and has been replaced by the group’s chief financial officer and deputy chief executive Henrik Tjärnström.
Nylander leaves after five years at the helm of the Malta-licensed Swedish operator, but will continue to support the company in an advisory role.
Unibet chairman Anders Ström said: “During Petter’s leadership, the company has increased the number of customers fourfold, tripled the turnover and doubled the profit after tax. This has been five good years”
Nylander’s replacement, Henrik Tjärnström, has been Nylander’s deputy and chief financial officer since 1 April 2008, prior to which he was a non-executive on the Unibet board from 2003 to 2008. Tjärnström also spent eight years working for Swedish construction giant Skanska.
Ström said the group was pleased it had been able to appoint a new chief executive from within the company. “Henrik is already deeply involved in the development and execution of the company’s strategy in his current position as deputy CEO. Given that, it feels natural that he takes the role as CEO to pursue these issues operationally”, says Anders Ström.
New Unibet chief executive Tjarnstrom added: “The market and the industry is now entering a new phase and I believe that Unibet has strong potential to build on its position in the future. In particular our restructuring to develop separate B2B and B2C businesses gives us a clearer focus and more opportunities for co-operation with other companies in the industry. “
Unibet’s head of accounting and control Graham Stretch will assume Tjarnstrom’s former chief financial officer role on an acting basis.
