NordicBet excludes non-Scandinavian customers
Exclusion forms part of multi-brand strategy, with the operator focusing on core markets
Betsson-owned egaming brand NordicBet.com has today stopped accepting wagers from outside of Scandinavia.
Both customers and marketing partners of the brand were informed of the decision via an emailed statement last week, however no official public comment from the company nor Betsson has been released.
The statement revealed that access to the operator’s entire suite of online gaming products would be prohibited outside of Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland and the Faroe Islands as of 2 January 2014.
Betsson chief commercial officer Huw Thomas informed eGaming Review that the decision had been taken as part of the operator’s multi-brand strategy.
“We won’t be spreading ourselves too thinly and will focus on our core markets, with NordicBet’s being the Scandinavian countries,” Thomas added.
Customers outside of Scandinavia have been given one month to withdraw funds from poker, casino and bingo accounts, while sportsbook funds will be able to be withdrawn 30 days after their last bet has been settled.
Betsson acquired the NordicBet brand when it purchased Nordic Gaming Group for 65m in April 2012, expanding the operator’s presence in the region.
NordicBet is licensed by the Lotteries and Gaming Authority of Malta but does not hold a licence from the UK Gambling Commission, with the UK’s looming Point of Consumption tax requiring operators wishing to accept bets from UK-based customers to hold UK licences.
