Nevada judge dismisses claims against Ifrah Law
Convicted online poker payment processor Chad Elie's case against Ifrah Law thrown out by federal judge in the Silver State
A federal judge in Nevada has dismissed a lawsuit filed by convicted Black Friday online poker payment processor Chad Elie against law firm Ifrah Law.
Last April Elie filed the suit against his former legal counsel from his jail cell, claiming Ifrah Law had withheld information that would have revealed processing payments from internet gambling was illegal.
However the Nevada court found all eight claims against Ifrah Law to be without merit.
“We pride ourselves on our strong, long-term relationships with clients, so when a former client sued us we were extremely shocked and disheartened,” said Jeff Ifrah. “We can’t speculate why Chad Elie chose to strike out and blame others for his actions, we can only speak to the facts.”
Elie was one of the payment processors named in the Black Friday indictment against PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker and Absolute Poker.
He was jailed for five months in prison by a judge in a Manhattan federal court in November 2012, having pleaded guilty to a single count of bank fraud earlier in the year. He had initially pleaded not guilty, however after changing his representation.
Ifrah Law is now considering pursuing Elie over damage to its reputation brought about by the claims.
“While we wish to put this case behind us we now have our reputations “ which we’ve worked extremely hard to build “ to repair. We are pursuing legal fees and will consider a defamation claim,” Ifrah added.
