Nearly 700 employed in egaming on the Isle of Man
Estimated figures for end of 2011 would represent a 7.4% year-on-year increase.
The Isle of Man egaming industry is set to show an increase of 7.4% in the number of employees when end-of-year figures come in next month.
In a Parliamentary hearing on the island this week, economic development minister John Shimmin said that the approximately 645 individuals employed in the industry in December 2010 was set to rise to 693 over the space of 12 months.
He also noted that 111 work permits had been issued to workers from the European Economic Area up until 31 October this year, with just under half of them earning salaries of more than £50,000, Isle of Man Today has reported.
Shimmin took up his new role last month, after the previous economic development minister Alan Bell was appointed as the island’s new Chief Minister.
Among the more senior egaming appointments made by companies based on the island within the last year are PokerStars’ recruitment of former Walt Disney Company senior MD Eric Hollreiser as head of corporate communications and former Microsoft European sales director Alex Payne as CMO.
