Mobile driving majority of revenues at SkyBet
UK operator expects further growth through content links with Sky Sports with mobile responsible for "over half" of sportsbook revenue
Sky Betting & Gaming is now generating the majority of its sports betting revenues through mobile, the firm’s managing director Richard Flint has told eGaming Review.
The operator posted a 32% year-on-year rise in revenues for the period ending 31 March 2013 and a 39% rise for the nine months of the firm’s financial year to date.
While all verticals posted growth it was sports betting and mobile in particular that drove revenue growth in the period, with Flint revealing that the channel contributed “over half” of all sports betting revenues.
“From what you read about that’s publicly quoted we have a bigger share of mobile than anyone else,” Flint said. William Hill recently reported that 35% of its online sports betting revenues came from mobile, while Paddy Power reported 42% of its online revenues came from mobile.
He added the eGR operator of the year expected mobile to continue to grow as it improves its mobile product, and as SkyBet begins to build stronger links with Sky Sports.
“Sky has a strong position in mobile and we have over 10 million people using our apps and we think we can do some unique and interesting stuff by combining betting with content,” Flint said.
“There is still a lot of work to be done on getting the basics on all the devices as good as it can be, [but] next after that is content and our Sky Sports connections have potential.”
The firm has also moved to strengthen its mobile offering across other verticals, with the release of its HTML5 casino portal for iOS devices in December 2012, followed by the launch of a Playtech-powered iOS bingo app in February.
