Mindway AI recruits former Danish Gambling Authority CEO
Birgitte Sand to join gambling-related harm treatment provider to help build regulatory expertise
Responsible gambling software provider Mindway AI has appointed former Danish Gambling Authority CEO Birgitte Sand to its board of directors.
A veteran of the gambling sector, Sand spent 12 years as director general of the Danish regulator from 2008.
During her tenure, she oversaw the partial licensing of online gambling operators in Denmark.
Since leaving the regulator in April 2020, Sand has managed her own consultancy business, which provides advice on gaming regulatory issues to international regulators including in the Canadian province of Ontario.
Sand’s appointment was confirmed at Mindway AI’s AGM on 20 April.
“We are very pleased to welcome Birgitte as our new board member,” Mindway AI CEO Rasmus Kjaergaard said.
“From her many years as director general at the Danish Gambling Authority and her national and international recognition, Birgitte has a level of regulatory expertise and insights that will further support our vision to improve responsible gambling and create a sustainable gambling environment,” Kjaergaard added.
Mindway AI offers a portfolio of products to tackle gambling-related harm via prevention and intervention by using artificial intelligence to identify customer behaviour patterns.
The company was founded by scientists at Denmark’s Aarhus University and is the brainchild of Professor Kim Mouridsen.
Mindway AI is currently involved in a pilot initiative in conjunction with FTSE 100 operator Entain.
The pilot scheme utilises Mindway’s Gamalyze self-identification test, which provides participants with feedback on their decision-making processes, with the aim of encouraging individuals to maintain control of their gambling behaviour.
In January, affiliate giant Better Collective inked a £2m deal to become majority owner of Mindway AI by purchasing an additional 70% of the firm’s shares.
