MGA inks data sharing deal with International Cricket Council
New partnership will see regulator work in tandem with ICC to combat match-fixing in cricket
The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) has signed a data-sharing agreement with the International Cricket Council (ICC) in a move to protect against match-fixing and corruption.
The new partnership will allow the pair to share crucial data which will be used to prevent match manipulation in the sport.
The ICC is the international governing body for cricket and is made up of more than 100 national governing bodies.
The ICC’s existing Integrity Unit co-ordinates action against corruption in the sport and its efforts will now be boosted by the partnership with the MGA.
Antonio Zerafa, MGA sports integrity manager, said: “This data sharing agreement with the ICC represents the Authority’s on-going commitment of combatting match-fixing and other types of manipulation in sports.
“This agreement will allow the MGA and the ICC to share crucial data related to the process of detecting, preventing and investigating activities related to manipulation of sports competitions,” he added.
