MGA agrees new sponsorship deal with University of Malta
Game theory lectures added to the agenda for local students with more projects to come
The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) has revealed a new sponsorship deal with the University of Malta.
The agreement was signed and sealed by University of Malta rector Alfred Vella and MGA CEO Carl Brincat.
Through the sponsorship, a series of lectures on game theory will be delivered, by visiting lecturer Professor Andrew Narwold from the University of San Diego.
Game theory is essentially a theoretical framework which allows participants to interpret real-life social situations through games.
It can also model strategic interactions, and it has been used as a tool to study in-depth economics.
Professor Vella said the upgrade in knowledge over game theory will equip local students with increased ability to apply mathematical techniques to understanding behaviour and decisions.
He said: “We have here a very important example of how University training and specialist education facilitate the students’ journey towards their careers and personal success and also assists industry actors, and in this case, the regulator, in finding the human resources required for their development leading, ultimately, to economic benefits for our society. ”
Brincat, meanwhile, believes the sponsorship will help Malta develop into a centre of excellence, which is among the MGA’s regulatory objectives.
The two parties have committed to more projects in the future for the benefit of the local students and the gaming industry.
