Malta Gaming Authority inks MoU with Dutch regulator
International regulators sign data-sharing and cooperation agreement targeting fraud and gambling-related harm prevention
The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) and the Dutch Gambling Authority (KSA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at increasing cooperation between the two international regulators.
Under the terms of the MoU, both authorities have pledged to support each other in sharing best practice and data in support of regulatory issues while also agreeing to discuss policy-related matters of mutual interest.
Areas of cooperation included within the agreement include the common objectives of preventing criminality, making sure gaming is fair and transparent, and protecting vulnerable persons against gambling addiction.
MGA CEO Heathcliff Farrugia hailed the MoU with the KSA as being “another step” in the right direction as the Maltese regulator looks to build its network of international cooperation.
“Our relationship and cooperation with Kansspelautoriteit has already yielded tangible results in the past, and with this MoU, apart from formalising such relationship, a stronger collaboration at an international level is also ensured,” Farrugia added.
The MGA has inked MoU arrangements with the Swedish Gambling Authority (SGA) and the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC), as well as agreeing integrity-led deals with sporting bodies including the IBIA, ICC, WPBSA and the Swedish Football Association.
KSA chairman René Jansen added: “These MoUs are a solid basis to share knowledge, to cooperate, and to smoothly exchange information. At the same time operators will be receiving a clear signal that hands of regulators will be joined internationally.”
