Magnus Carlsen joins Kindred Group team for World Corporate Chess Championship
World number one to represent Stockholm-listed operator alongside team captain and marketing intelligence analyst Jasper Tambini
World champion chess player Magnus Carlsen will represent Kindred Group at the first ever FIDE Online World Corporate Chess Championship. The Swede, who is also a Unibet brand ambassador, will join three Kindred employees in a team of four at the inaugural edition of the event, which starts on 19 February 2021. The Stockholm-listed operator has signed up to be one of 288 competing teams, with 1,467 players expected to take part in the tournament, representing 78 different countries. Carlsen could potentially face off against other renowned chess players including Russian grandmasters Ian Nepomniachtchi and Vladislav Artemiev and Dutch maestro Anish Giri. Carlsen said: “This tournament will be a fun break from my own daily tournaments and I look forward to representing Kindred Group in the games toward some of the biggest companies and brands in the world. “There are many teams competing and for me the level of competence in some of them is surprisingly high. “I am impressed by the enthusiasm the team of Unibet and Kindred shows when it comes to chess and I know that they have many competent hobby players within their organisation,” he added. The Kindred team will be captained by the firm’s marketing intelligence analyst Jasper Tambini. “We are very excited to strengthen our team with our Unibet ambassador Magnus Carlsen,” said Tambini. “Betting on chess is increasing as a form of entertainment, especially when Magnus is sitting by the chess board. “Internally within Kindred, many employees have through Magnus’ collaboration with Unibet found an interest for the game. “The creativeness and the playful approach to precise execution that chess brings is something our employees can relate to in their daily work,” he added.
