NBA acquires stake in FanDuel
The National Basketball Association (NBA) has acquired an equity stake in FanDuel following a two-pronged deal which has also seen the operator become the official fantasy sports partner of the NBA.
While the financial details of the stake remain undisclosed, FanDuel CEO Nigel Eccles told ESPN the deal would help “legitimize” his firm and said the NBA “understood the upside” of investing in the growing industry.
The multi-year marketing agreement marks the first time the NBA has signed a one-day fantasy sports partnership, and the first signed by FanDuel with a major sporting league, despite having already linked up with five basketballs teams including the Orlando Magic.
