Ladbrokes strikes Scottish football sponsorship deal
Two-year agreement sees UK operator join forces with the Scottish football league after two seasons without a title sponsor
The Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) has today announced Ladbrokes will become its new title sponsor as part of a two-year deal which kicks off in time for the 2015-16 season.
The league competition has been without a headline sponsor for the last two seasons but Ladbrokes has obtained the naming rights for the Scottish Premiership, Championship, League 1 and League 2.
The sponsorship deal is for an undisclosed figure but Ladbrokes’ new chief executive Jim Mullen described it as one of the “best opportunities in British sport” for the firm.
“This partnership will help to propel Ladbrokes and the SPFL to new heights and will put us at the heart of Scottish football throughout the year,” Mullen said.
“The Scottish game deserves a committed supporter and our financial backing will help to ensure every level of the game benefits from Ladbrokes’ involvement,” he added.
Earlier this year Ladbrokes became sponsor of the Rugby League’s Challenge Cup in a three-year deal reported to be worth around £1m a year, adding to its horseracing sponsorship deals at Doncaster and Cheltenham.
“As an established and respected leading brand in its very competitive marketplace, Ladbrokes is a perfect partner for the SPFL and we have a shared vision of a positive future for professional league football in Scotland,” Neil Doncaster, SPFL chief executive said.
