LADBROKES HAS OVERTAKEN Stan James and William Hill while Betfair has recovered its lead over Bet365, the November figures from top odds comparison site Oddschecker reveal.
The data from Oddschecker, which boasts more than 600,000 unique users a month, have been seen by eGaming Review exclusively, and reveal that Ladbrokes has overtaken Stan James and William Hill to become the third most popular bookmaker, with a 10.2% share of overall traffic.
Oddschecker commercial manager Simon Miller said: “The biggest mover of the month was Ladbrokes. The majority of these gains have come in horse racing, where it has added extra market share mainly at the expense of Bet365. Always a good converting brand, Ladbrokes have driven incremental bets with aggressive pricing on mid-week racing meetings.
Ladbrokes also gains at the expense of Bet365 contributed to activity at the very top of the group, where Betfair’s dominance over Bet365 was re-asserted after Bet365 threatened to take Betfair’s place in October, when just 0.6% of a percentage point separated the two operators.
However due to the racing hit, Bet365’s share fell in November fell to 12.9% (from 13.5%), while Betfair’s share rose to 14.5% (from 14.1%).
Miller added: “The gap at the top has widened. After having its supremacy briefly threatened last month, Betfair retained the biggest market share of bets [from Oddschecker]. This was achieved with increased football betting activity, no doubt helped by Betfair’s recent TV campaigns.”
Betfair has launched a major push on football marketing in recent months that has included sponsorship deals with Manchester United and FC Barcelona football clubs and with the UK’s TalkSport radio station.
As reported on EGRmagazine.com, Betfair beat rivals including Ladbrokes, Paddy Power and William Hill to become EGR UK Sports Operator of the Year at the EGR Awards on Monday.
Bet365 was shortlisted for Operator Of The Year 2009, the premier award, but lost out to Austria’s Bwin.
