Kindred Group divulges revenue mix from problem gamblers
Stockholm-listed operator highlights 4.3% revenue figure from high-risk gamblers amid plan to reach 0% by 2023
Kindred Group has revealed that 4.3% of its gross winnings revenue was generated by high-risk players in Q4 2020. In addition, the firm has acknowledged that 75.7% of high-risk gamblers showed improvements in their gambling behaviour after being identified by Kindred’s proprietary PSED system (Player Safety Early Detection), which aims to combat problem gambling among the operator’s player base. The Stockholm-listed operator has committed to having 0% of its revenue mix derived from harmful gambling by 2023. As part of this, Kindred will aim to increase precision in the PSED system, as well as improve access to support tools and communicate more clearly with players. Both figures will be published every quarter until the 0% target is reached. On the PSED system, players receive information about tools that can be activated to limit gambling. For example, setting a budget, a time limit, or taking shorter or longer breaks with the aim of “encouraging” the player towards healthier gambling. If that does not work, players are then contacted via email, text message, or phone, and Kindred have confirmed that 55,000 of these so-called care calls were conducted in 2020 to players identified by the PSED system. “We want to share these figures to increase the understanding of our long-term sustainability work and contribute to a safer gambling experience,“ Kindred Group CEO Henrik Tjärnström explained. “Reducing harmful gambling in society is a long-term process which requires a fact-based, open, and constructive dialogue, not least with decision-makers. “We want to contribute to that. The most important thing decision-makers can do right now is to reduce the flight to unlicensed gambling operators, who fail to provide players with any safety measures whatsoever,” he added.
