HKJC appoints new director of betting channels
Gary Chow takes on role after a spell as managing director for engineering, teleservices and portfolio management.
The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) has appointed Gary Chow to the position of executive director of channels and organisational development.
Chow, whose appointment takes effect from 3 October, will take responsibility for the operator’s three betting channels, Cashbet, Telebet and Interactive Services, which between them account for the largest share of its 26,000 strong workforce.
He will be tasked with ensuring the channels meet increasingly sophisticated customer needs, so as to “help the Club maintain its leadership in today’s growingly competitive market”, the company said in a statement.
Chow’s most recent role was as managing director for engineering, teleservices and portfolio management at the Hong Kong-based operator, and was previously managing director of its commercial group, overseeing various channels for the group’s commercial sector.
In June HKJC agreed partnership with the Manchester United Foundation, the charitable arm of the English football giant, to raise funds for charitable schemes in Hong Kong using the Premier League football club’s brand.
The HKJC raises money for local charities and community initiatives through its betting and horse racing activites, donating a total of HK2.65bn (£215m) last year.
The Club’s revenues have soared beyond any of its European competitors in recent years, with the business turning over £5.86bn in 2002 compared to £10.6bn last year.
