Hills ad passed for broadcast following Coral complaint
ASA rules Hills TV ad did not break any rules after evidence proved it offered better online football odds than Coral.
William Hill has had a television advert cleared for broadcast by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) following a challenge from Coral.
The William Hill campaign, which “guaranteed the best prices on all favourites” in English and Scottish Premier League matches, was challenged by Coral that claimed that some of its own prices on the same matches offered online and in betting shops were better.
Hills said that small print, which named Oddschecker as the source of the information, would inform customers that the odds were only available online, and via mobile and telephone betting. The body text of the advert also featured the disclaimer “all football prices are phone/net/mobile. Different odds may apply in shop,” which the ASA deemed appropriate.
Referring to Coral’s claim that it offered better odds, the ASA ruled that after considering Hills’ evidence that it had either matched or beaten Coral’s odds, the advert’s claim was not misleading and had not breached any of the ASA’s regulations.
