Global Gaming dropped by KPMG
KPMG requests early termination of audit agreement with embattled operator
Global Gaming has confirmed that its auditor KPMG has requested the early termination of its contract following the operator’s Swedish licence revocation.
A letter of departure was provided to Global Gaming by KPMG’s head of auditing services in Sweden, and the operator confirmed it has commenced the search for a replacement.
The firm also said it would convene an extraordinary general meeting when several prospective auditors have been identified.
It follows the Swedish Gambling Authority’s decision to strip Global Gaming of their licence to operate in the Swedish market earlier this month.
Global Gaming CEO Tobias Fagerlund said he was “surprised” that KPMG had chosen to part ways with Global Gaming, stating that the company had made no comment on its 2019 audit of the operator.
“We understand that our process against the Gaming Inspectorate causes many questions and concerns, but we are convinced that the ongoing legal process will ultimately show that the Gaming Inspectorate’s decision was incorrect and disproportionate. It is unfortunate that their decisions have side effects like this,” Fagerlund added.
Global Gaming has appealed the SGA ruling, asking for an “inhibition claim” which would allow it to remain in operation while the Swedish courts examine the validity of the SGA’s decision, but this was dismissed by a Swedish Administrative Court judge, prompting a fresh appeal at the Swedish Administrative Court of Appeal in Stockholm
KPMG had not responded to an EGR request for comment at the time of publication.
