GIG acquires stake in Hong Kong games studio for €360k
Malta-based egaming firm takes a 36% stake in developer D-Tech, which will launch its first game next month
Gaming Innovation Group (GIG) has acquired a 36% stake in Hong Kong-based games studio, D-Tech, via its GIG Games subsidiary.
The deal will see GIG pay €360,000 for its stake in the company, with the Malta-based firm set to receive eight exclusive online games as part of its bid to create a “fully integrated” egaming ecosystem.
A selection of D-Tech Games will be built directly into GIG Games’ remote gaming server, with new games to go live on GIG’s own casino brands first and launched with other operators later this year.
Mathias Larsson, MD of GIG Games, said: “The people behind the studio are industry veterans and masters of their craft. So we know that they will produce great games.
“Investing in an Asian game studio helps us build games for Asian players in Europe, effectively increasing our output in number of games per year to match the volume of larger game providers in the industry.”
Hong Kong-based D-Tech will launch its first game, Year of the Dog, next month and aims to release a total of ten games throughout the year.
“We are excited to welcome GIG as part of our team,” Harmen Brenninkmeijer, founder of D-Tech, said.
“GIG’s entrepreneurial and innovative culture is a perfect fit with our own and this deal provides D-Tech with a fantastic opportunity to team up with the leading innovative iGaming operator while we focus on building games for Asian players.”
News of GIG’s deal with D-Tech comes after the firm recently reported an 86% year-on-year rise in Q4 2017 revenues, driven by particularly strong growth from the firm’s burgeoning B2B division.
