GambleAware appoints NHS exec as new trustee
NHS England commissioner appointed as ninth trustee for the charity
GambleAware has confirmed the appointment of Rachel Pearce as a new independent trustee, bringing its total number of trustees up to nine.
A current director of commissioning operations for NHS England, Pearce is responsible for a £1bn commissioning budget across a number of NHS areas in the south of England.
She has also served for 13 years as a trustee for several drug and alcohol support charities, including time as the vice chair of Gloucester based charity the Independent Trust until 2014.
Kate Lampard, GambleAware’s chair of trustees, welcomed the appointment of Pearce, citing her strong experience and track record in commissioning as being of benefit to the charity.
“We now consider the Board to have a full complement of trustees that will enable us to pursue our charitable objectives to reduce gambling-related harms,” she added.
In November, the GambleAware board of trustees became completely independent, with the appointment of Professor Marcantonio Spada, professor of Addictive Behaviours and Mental Health at London South Bank University and Paul Simpson, CFO and deputy CEO of the Surrey & Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust to the board.
Addressing this, Lampard said independence was “necessary to secure public trust and confidence given our central role in commissioning research, education and treatment services”.
