French online sports betting revenues up 67% in Q2
2018 World Cup aids double-digit growth for French market
French regulator ARJEL has revealed that revenues from sports betting rose by 67% year-on-year during the second quarter of 2018.
Releasing its summary of the French market performance for the period, the regulator reported sports betting revenues of €181m (£161.1m), surpassing the €109m (£97m) accrued during the same period of 2017.
The total amount of all sports bets made rose sharply during the quarter, increasing by 61% to a total of €1,002m (£908m) from a Q2 2017 high of €624m (£555.7m)
Active player accounts also increased by double-digits, rising by 75% to 527,000 active sports betting accounts during Q2 2018.
Revenues from betting on horseracing also increased during the second quarter of 2018, rising by a modest 6% year-on-year to €61m (£54.3m) during Q2 2018 from €58m during the same quarter of 2017.
The total amount of bets also rose during the quarter, increasing by 5% year-on-year to €250m (£222m), while the number of active customers with betting accounts rose by 6% during the same period to 136,000.
Online poker revenues increased by 2% during the second quarter of 2018, rising to €60m, with active player accounts rising by 8% to 246,000 in the same period.
