Fanslide switches off for Euro 2020 final
Fantasy football start-up encourages fans to watch game with no distractions as England look for first ever Euro victory
Fantasy football app Fanslide has decided to not make the Euro 2020 final between Italy and England available and has urged players to enjoy the game with no distractions. England’s extra-time victory against Denmark in the semi-final set up a first major tournament final for 55 years, and Fanslide founder Joe Cocozza has implored users to savour the moment. The app launched ahead of the tournament and is played live on one-off matches, allowing players to swap players in and out in real time. Cocozza said: “We created Fanslide to add extra excitement when watching football matches. However, England’s first major final in 55 years is a completely unique occasion and it merits a unique response from us.” “Sunday’s game is the biggest match of a lifetime for England supporters, so we’re deferring to the magnitude of the occasion and encouraging our players to switch off this time and just enjoy the match with friends and family,” he added. Although Fanslide said more than 80% of its users are England fans, users from other countries have backed the move. Fanslide will return in time for the domestic 2021-22 season in August, promising new features to make games more sociable and exciting for fans.
