Exclusive: The Stars Group hires William Hill’s ex-US online chief
Matthew Gerard left Hills last month after six years at the firm to become Stars’ new director of business development
The Stars Group (TSG) has hired William Hill’s former US digital managing director Matthew Gerard as its new director of business development, EGR Intel can reveal.
Gerard left William Hill last month after six years at the London-headquartered bookmaker, including nearly one year leading its US online business from New York, and is currently on gardening leave until 30 April.
He will join Stars in the coming weeks as a senior member of the office of the CEO, focused on global business development for the Toronto-listed firm, and based primarily out of its new London office on St Martin’s Lane.
Last month EGR revealed Stars had closed its office on Air Street in London.

Matthew Gerard worked for William Hill for six years
In his new role at TSG, Gerard will join up with former Hills colleagues including Robin Chhabra and Andrew Lee.
Prior to taking up his US-based role with William Hill, Gerard was payments, risk and regulatory affairs director following business and strategic development roles at the bookmaker.
A William Hill spokesperson confirmed there would be no direct replacement for Gerard, although his role has since been filled by Kenneth Fuchs and additional personnel.
The Stars Group and William Hill came 11th and 8th respectively in EGR’s recent US Power Rankings.
Stars has yet to start marketing extensively in the US as it works on securing a media partner to help it replicate the so-called Sky Bet model.
