Enlabs warned to launch or lose Swedish licence
Sweden-headquartered operator reiterates June 2020 launch promise following revocation warning
Enlabs will have its Swedish gaming licence revoked if it does not commence online gambling in the country by 1 July 2020, the Swedish Gambling Authority (SGA) has confirmed.
The company currently has a five-year Swedish licence to conduct online gambling and sports betting, which was awarded in December 2018, following the re-regulation of the Swedish market.
The SGA issued the warning to the operator under the terms of the Swedish Gambling Act after the company reported that it had not commenced operations in January.
However, Enlabs said that it is now targeting a June 2020 launch date for sports betting and online gambling in the country.
Enlabs president and CEO George Ustinov said the warning from the SGA was not unexpected and has not changed the company’s strategy.
“We believe the SGA’s assessment is reasonable and we will offer games under our Swedish licence no later than June 2020,” said Ustinov.
“In particular, I would like to emphasise that the SGA’s warning only extends because we did not offer games under our licence and does not involve any financial consequences,” he added.
Ustinov has only been in the CEO role for a month having replaced former Catena Media CEO Robert Andersson in February.
The firm, which was formerly known as Nordic Leisure, runs the OptiBet sportsbook and casino as well as several affiliate sites including BestBet.
