DCMS appoints third gambling minister since November
MP for Faversham and mid-Kent Helen Whately put in charge of gambling policy after departure of Rebecca Pow
Helen Whately will take charge of gambling matters after the latest reshuffle of the UK government’s Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS).
Whately, the MP for Faversham and mid Kent, takes over from previous incumbent Rebecca Pow, who held the position for just six weeks after replacing Mims Davies in July 2019.

Whately will be the third minister to oversee gambling since November 2018, when Tracey Crouch resigned over a delay in the implementation of FOBT stake cuts.
She is also deputy chair of the Conservative Party and will look after arts, heritage and tourism in her new role.
Delighted to join @DCMS as Minister for Arts, Heritage and Tourism. Already lost count of the number of people who’ve told me I have the best job in Government. pic.twitter.com/jlQV1f9E5f

A fourth gambling minister could be appointed before the end of this year should Prime Minister Boris Johnson get his wish of a general election.
GBGC CEO Warwick Bartlett told EGR Intel: “Does it really matter who is appointed these days? The moment a new minister enters the DCMS they become spellbound by current policy, so I would not expect any material change in anything.”
