Danske Spil rolls out new game ID card
Danish monopoly operator introduces safer gambling measure across retail portfolio and mobile app
Danske Spil has unveiled a mandatory game ID system which customers will be required to complete before gambling with the monopoly operator.
The game ID, which is available as a physical card or as an online app downloadable via the Google Play and the Apple App Store, is mandatory for all players across Denmark, Greenland and the Faroe Islands.
It is understood there is no minimum requirement on which the game ID must be provided, with the Danske Spil game ID being linked to the Danish national identification system, NemID.
It follows the launch of a Safe Play initiative, which aims to protect children and minors from underage gambling, while also working to combat money laundering and match fixing.
The roll out follows successful scheme pilots in the Danish city of Roskilde and all across Funen, the third largest island in the Danish island chain.
“Safe Games is also the largest accountability initiative in the history of the gaming industry, and we have had to ensure that our dealers have been well prepared and thus provide customers with the necessary assistance,” Danske Spil CEO Niels Erik Folmann said.
“That is why we have run the rollout in stages. Fortunately, our customers have generally welcomed Safe Games, as they want to help create a safe gaming market.
“With Safe Games, we register who plays in the shops, and we can follow the cashflows from kiosk to match. It offers completely new opportunities to combat both money laundering and match fixing,” Folmann added.
Danske Spil is the only online gambling provider licensed in the Danish market to operate a mandatory ID system.
“As long as it is possible to play anonymously, criminals will be able to fly under the radar and, at the same time, minors will still be able to play in shops,” Folmann explained.
“Danske Spil has now paved the way, and therefore we hope that all other gaming providers who sell sports games will be required to introduce a game ID,” he added.
