Danish market records double-digit Q3 growth
Regulator reports 10% rise in sports betting to DKK577m as market continues to grow steadily
Revenues from the Danish online gambling market increased 10% year-on-year in Q3 2018 to DKK1bn (£118.7m), buoyed by a spike in sports betting activity.
The sports betting market recorded the largest growth of all the verticals with a 10% year-on-year rise to DKK577m (£68.5m).
Danish regulator Spillmyndigheden said the busiest month for sports betting in 2017 was April which saw over 2.3bn kroner wagered (£273m).
Table games recorded the biggest decline of 3.9% between Q2 and Q3 while slot games also flatlined.
The report said the overall casino growth of 19% was driven by single-player games which grew 106% since the authority started tracking player data in 2014.
Slots was the most popular casino game in Q3 with a market share of 67%. Elsewhere, roulette and blackjack also proved more popular among players, while poker continued to decline.
As of January Denmark will liberalise bingo and operators will be taxed 20% of GGR, in line with the casino and sports betting.
