Danish Gambling Authority blocks 16 illegal gambling sites
Regulator files court orders against casino, skins betting and sports betting sites
The Danish Gambling Authority (DGA) has blocked the web pages of 16 online gambling and sports betting operators for offering gambling to Danish consumers without a licence.
Seven online casino sites were targeted by regulators, with access to sites including 14red.com, Casino-Napoli.com and lordofthespins.com being blocked to all Danish IPs.
Two online sports betting sites were blocked by the DGA, Danlotto.com and 22bet.com for targeting Danish gamblers without a licence.
As part of an expanded focus on skin betting sites, which the DGA believes to be linked to increasing instances of gambling among underage individuals, a further seven skin betting sites were also blocked.
DGA director Morten Niels Jakobsen said blocking illegal websites was a very important tool in the regulator’s efforts to clamp down on unlicensed firms.
“We work to a great extent to protect players against illegal gambling, and we also need to ensure that the providers who have a licence to offer games in Denmark can run their business in orderly conditions,” said Niels Jakobsen.
The DGA has agreements with all of Denmark’s internet service providers to block unlicensed sites but must first apply for a court order to do so.
The regulator revealed that one other unlicensed operator pulled out of the Danish market before Danish regulators could file a court order demanding it be blocked.
A total of 90 unlicensed gambling sites have been blocked by the DGA since 2012.
