Cherry granted Poland licence
Operator says it will be one of the first to offer online sports betting to Polish customers
Cherry has been granted a licence to operate in Poland under the Polish government’s new legal framework.
The company will operate under its recently established Cherry Online Polska subsidiary.
Patryk Włodarski, a local consultant for the firm, said it had been a priority of Cherry’s to gain a licence after the market became fully regulated in 2017.
“We are proud to be the one of the first companies to be granted the licence,” Włodarski said.
“Now with a company in Warsaw holding a licence, Cherry is in position to introduce its first online sportsbook brand to the Polish customers very soon.”
The Swedish-operator is the second to receive a licence under the new regime, with Warsaw-based TOTALbet being the first earlier this week.
In total there a nine operators licenced in the jurisdiction after a number of high-profile brands withdrew from the Polish market last year ahead of the new licensing regime.
Betfair for example, pulled out in March 2017 after being put off by a 12% tax on turnover.
