Catena Media appoints Chris Welch as vice president of sports
Former PKR and PokerStars exec replaces Richard Gale at the Stockholm-listed affiliate giant
Catena Media has recruited former PKR chief executive Chris Welch as its new vice president of sports.
Welch will be responsible for Catena Media’s portfolio of sports brands – excluding US assets – in his new role and will be based in the firm’s London office.
EGR Intel understands that former sports vice president Richard Gale has left the business.

Chris Welch
Welch is an industry veteran having worked in a variety of marketing and poker-focused roles for operators including Pinnacle, PokerStars, Coral and bwin over the last two decades.
He will report directly into Malta-based Catena Media CEO Per Hellberg in his new position.
Hellberg told EGR Intel: “Chris joins with a wealth of experience with 20 years of senior management positions within the egaming industry.
“We are very happy to welcome him on board, to be a driving force and to further establish Catena Media as the market leader within sports in each market we decide to operate within,” he added.
Welch had been working as an online gambling consultant since 2018. He contributed to EGR Intel’s list of industry predictions for 2020.
