THE OWNER of the Canadian Poker Tour (CPT) and Canadian Poker Player Magazine, HeadsUp Entertainment International, will launch its own internet television poker network this year.
CanadianPokerPlayer.tv will feature coverage of major Canadian poker events as well as documentary productions looking behind the scenes of the CPT.
The company said the move was the first step toward its longer term aim of expansion into international markets, building on the marketing tie it has with the World Poker Showdown.
HeadsUp president Kelly Kellner said the launch was an opportunity for the company to gain a return on its investments in television over the past four years and to create a media delivery package to CPT sponsors.
Kellner said “Players and fans will have a means to pursue their interest in the sport and we couldn’t be more excited,” added Kellner.
In other TV news recently, Netplay TV signed a five year deal with Channel Five Broadcasting to broadcast a daily live casino show on UK TV channel Five, while European sports broadcaster EurosportBET said it is to launch a UK-facing poker site on the Ongame poker network in preparation for the forthcoming regulation in home market of France next year.
