Bwin to stream World Cup qualifiers
Deal with SPORTFIVE International sees release of mobile app ahead of first games tonight.
Bwin.party’s bwin brand has agreed a deal with media company SPORTFIVE International for the live streaming of European qualifying matches for the 2014 football World Cup.
Streams will be available to watch free on the bwin.com platform, as well as via the iPhone, iPad and Android versions of the Qualifiers 2014 app, which has been launched jointly by the two parties.
The app provides live streaming content in all territories, however a statement explains that “Games cannot be streamed in the home and away countries of the nations competing.”
More than 150 games will be streamed in total in the European qualifying region, beginning with tonight’s fixtures which include England vs San Marino and Ireland vs Germany and ending with the final round of qualifiers in October 2013.
The app also includes a live Twitter feed (@qualifiers2014), providing updates from across all qualifying groups, as well as live score updates and archived video footage.
It represents part of bwin.party’s push to offer premium sports content across multiple channels, a strategy supported by its tie-ins with football clubs Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and more recently Manchester United.
Bwin group sports director Marco Falchetto said of the agreement: “We are excited to be able to be offering football fans the chance to watch and interact with World Cup qualification matches like never before.”
