Bwin.party begins mobile push with app upgrade
Far-reaching update adds casino games to sports app two months after operator outlined mobile ambitions
Bwin.party’s mobile sportsbook app has received a major upgrade with casino games added as part of a wider mobile push, two months after the operator outlined its desire to reclaim the lead in the platform.
The update, released to iOS apps on Monday, is the first major work conducted on the app since bwin.party’s full year results in March and, speaking to eGaming Review this morning, a company spokesperson said the upgrade was part of a harder push on the channel.
Casino games have been added to the firm’s sportsbook app for the first time, allowing players to switch seamlessly to between the two verticals without having to launch a separate application.
Just six casino games are live at the moment “ roulette, blackjack and four slots games “ as well as a live dealer roulette offering, and eGR understands that further improvements to the app are to be made in the coming months.
The upgrade has also added customisable features such as a new navigation bar and the opportunity to select which market type is displayed on the match betting overview page, while more detailed statistics on football matches have also been added.
Company chairman Norbert Teufelberger bemoaned bwin.party’s mobile performance at its full-year results disclosure in March, admitting that it had fallen behind its rivals and “lost the edge” on the channel.
Mobile contributed around 12% of all revenues in 2013 which, while representative of a 77% increase year-on-year, lagged significantly behind the firm’s rivals.
This percentage had risen to 17% during the operator’s Q1 2014 results and Teufelberger backed additional product launches and improvements to its mobile offering to boost sequential growth even further.
