Bwin.party to close WPTPoker site
Operator will close poker skin on 3 June to focus on partypoker and bwin poker brands
Bwin.party has said it will close its WPTPoker.com site next month in order to channel more resources to its partypoker and bwin poker brands.
A spokesman for the operator confirmed to eGaming Review this morning that the site would close for good on 3 June but players would have up to three months to withdraw funds.
In a message sent to players, bwin.party said it was closing WPTPoker.com to focus its online poker efforts “entirely” on its lead brands – partypoker and bwin poker.
The news comes after bwin.party reported a 31% year-on-year decline in online poker revenues to 16.8m in the first quarter of the year.
Daily average players were also significantly down during the period from 41,000 in Q1 2014 to 28,900 this year despite the operator’s latest UK marketing push being “well received.”
The operator is currently pouring over two £1bn+ bids to acquire the firm in its entirety by GVC/Amaya and 888, with a decision expected in the coming weeks.
