BoyleSports shuts London office
Irish operator opts to close London base in a move which also sees head of trading Jonathan Wright leave the firm
BoyleSports has decided to close its London office little more than a year-and-a-half after first opening the marketing-focused operation, eGaming Review has learned.
The closure of the Bayswater base, which will take place over the next few months, comes after eGaming Review in November reported the Irish firm had placed the office under review having previously announced plans to open an operational hub in Gibraltar.
“After considerable deliberation BoyleSports has decided to close its London office,” the firm said in a statement this morning. “The move follows a lengthy review and comes at a time when the company is establishing a UK base in Gibraltar,” it added.
Half a dozen staff will effected by the closure, including UK-based head of trading and risk management Jonathan Wright, who the operator said had left to set up his own sportsbook consultancy firm.
“Jonathan’s knowledge of sport in general and racing in particular has helped BoyleSports offer the best prices in the industry, a reputation we work to uphold every day,” John Boyle, BoyleSports CEO, said. “We understand his desire to strike out on his own and we look forward to being his first client,” he added.
The departure of Wright follows the exit of chief marketing officer James Arnold, who left the firm in October having turned down the chance to relocate to Gibraltar. The firm has since hired former Nordicbet MD Neill Garfield to succeed Arnold.
BoyleSports is currently in negotiations with the Gibraltar Gambling Commissioner which, if successful, will see the company relocate its sportsbook and gaming operations, which are currently licensed out of the Isle of Man and Alderney respectively.
The operator has said it plans to employ a 20-strong team in Gibraltar’s Ocean Village business area once it has completed the necessary regulatory process.
