Blue Square to sponsor Winter Derby
Winter Derby latest all-weather racing event to be sponsored by Rank-owned sportsbook.
Blue Square has announced a deal to sponsor the Winter Derby at Lingfield Park Racecourse, one of the most profitable races of the all-weather season.
The sportsbook, owned by Rank Interactive, is the leading sponsor of the all-weather racing season, with the Blue Square Winter Carnival and Blue Square Sprint Series taking place during January and February.
Richard Jacques, spokesman for Blue Square, commented: “The past week has underlined the importance of the all-weather tracks to British horseracing. We have invested heavily in all-weather racing over the past couple of years and the Blue Square Winter Derby is an excellent addition to our sponsorship portfolio.”
Rank Group attributed the company’s 25% year-on-year increase in revenues to the success of its interactive brands, with the likes of Blue Square, Mecca Bingo and Grosvenor Casinos performing strongly in H2 2011.
