Betway’s Davis Cup and Fed Cup deal terminated early
Operator says “both parties” decided to activate break clause as Tennis Federation looks to distance itself from betting companies
Betway is no longer sponsoring the Davis Cup and Fed Cup after the operator and International Tennis Federation (ITF) decided to end its partnership after just one year.
The operator initially signed a three-year deal with the ITF to become main sponsor of both the Davis Cup and Fed Cup from 2016 through 2018.
However, the ITF said it had recently amended its commercial policy and decided to end all associations with betting-related companies.
In a statement, an ITF spokesperson told EGR Intel: “The ITF took the decision to end the Betway partnership early as part of a policy decision to cease having betting sponsors.”
In response, a Betway spokesperson said “both parties decided to exercise a break-clause”.
Last month, William Hill announced it would no longer have its branding courtside at the Australian Open in the wake of match-fixing allegations unconnected to the operator.
Earlier this week, Betway enhanced its horseracing sponsorship portfolio after striking a deal with Jockey Club Racecourses to back two National Hunt racing events taking place next month.
