Betway hires industry veteran Alger for new media role
Former Blue Square PR head Alan Alger appointed sporting events and media manager as operator lines up new sponsorship deals
Betway has appointed Alan Alger to the newly created a role of sporting events and media manager as part of the operator’s on-going strategy to grow its brand in the UK market.
Industry veteran Alger joins Betway’s marketing and events team from Skrill, where he headed-up the payment processor’s sponsorship of three English Football Conference divisions, but will be more commonly recognised for the six years spent at Blue Square, we he held the role of PR manager before the operator was acquired by Betfair in April 2013.
Alger previously gained experience as a trader at City Index and Spreadex before becoming PR manager at Sportingbet in October 2002.
“I’m thrilled to have joined such an ambitious and fast-growing business and I am really excited about Betway’s plans for the coming months and beyond,” Alger said.
Alger will be tasked with pushing Betway’s UK marketing strategy which has already seen an extensive TV advertising campaign a number of high profile sponsorship deals, including the Carl Froch v George Groves boxing match in April.
The operator also sponsored the Queen Mother Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival, and signed a three-year deal to sponsor the Premier League Darts earlier this month and the firm expects to announce a number of new deals in the coming weeks and months.
“Alan’s experience in betting and public relations speaks for itself and makes him an outstanding addition to our expanding team,” Betway CEO Richard Akitt, said.
“His vast knowledge will be a crucial asset as we continue to grow the Betway brand,” he added.
