Anthony Werkman takes over top job from Richard Akitt who moves to chairman role
Betway has promoted Anthony Werkman as its new CEO, replacing former chief executive Richard Akitt who takes up the position of chairman.
Werkman joined Betway in 2013 and most recently served as director of marketing and operations.
He has worked in the gaming industry since 2000, having been born and educated in South Africa.
“I am honoured to be taking on the Group CEO role of Betway at a hugely exciting time for the company,” said Werkman.
“Richard and I have worked closely together over the last few years and I look forward to continuing to work with him in his new role as chairman.
“We have experienced an incredible period of growth over the past few years and are determined to make sure that trajectory continues.”

Akitt served as CEO of Betway for the past five years, and led the firm through “a dramatic period of growth,” according to the company.
“It’s been a privilege to be CEO of Betway for the last five years, but the time is right for me to hand over the reins to Anthony,” said Akitt.
“I look forward to continuing our excellent working relationship and being closely involved in the strategic direction of the business going forward.”
Betway ranked 20th in this year’s Power 50, earning praise for its aggressive marketing spend and esports investments.
