Betway boosts esports presence with latest sponsorship deal
Operator’s investment in esports continues with sponsorship of Counter Strike’s ESL Pro League
Betway has continued its investment in esports with a new deal to become the major sponsor of the ESL Pro League 2017.
The ESL Pro League is the longest running professional esports league of the Counter Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) game, a first person shooter.
The new deal follows Betway’s sponsorship of the ESL One Cologne league earlier this year.
The Pro League sees 14 teams from Europe and North America compete for a $1m prize pool, with Betway offering live odds on the tournament broadcast.
Anthony Werkman, director of marketing and operations at Betway, said: “Our experience sponsoring ESL One Cologne was a huge success, and the feedback we received from our first-of-its-kind live odds feeds into the broadcast has inspired us to increase our involvement across tournaments and teams in the coming months and years.”
Betway has invested heavily in esports over the last few years and has made a sustained effort to increase the amount of betting content available in professional esports competitions.
The firm’s six-figure sponsorship of esports organisation Ninjas in Pyjamas (NiP) ended last week after NiP’s League of Legends team entered the Riot Games’ Premier LCS league which explicitly bans any affiliation with gambling companies.
