BetVictor banks on mobile World Cup with app overhaul
Operator releases completely redesigned app and forecasts 80% of World Cup betting will be placed via mobile devices
BetVictor has overhauled its mobile app as it looks to capitalise on a mobile-led World Cup with the firm predicting 80% of all bets on the tournament will be placed via mobile devices.
The bookmaker released the fourth version of its iOS sportsbook application yesterday having completely redesigned it to closely resemble its mobile-optimised website and include a host of new features.
The in-play betting screen has been upgraded with real-time game clocks, while text commentary has also been added along with in-game animations.
BetVictor becomes the latest operator to release World Cup-themed updates after the likes of Ladbrokes, bwin.party, Betfair and Paddy Power all revamped their mobile products in time for the tournament.
Turlough Lally, director of mobile at BetVictor, said the update was designed to roll out new features to its customers after it had predicted that the vast majority of World Cup bets would be placed on mobile devices.
“In the last Premier League season 65% of customers placed their bets using their phones and we expect, because of the mobile friendly timings of the games, that number to rise to 80% over the next five weeks,” Lally said.
“We have already seen a steady rise in mobile sign ups in recent weeks as punters cotton on to the fact that their mobile devices will be the betting medium of choice for the 2014 World Cup,” Lally added.
Ladbrokes CEO Richard Glynn made a similar prediction during the company’s Q1 2014 results disclosure in April, suggesting that this summer’s tournament would be the “biggest ever mobile World Cup”.
